24. Logan’s Meadow: Expanding Local Nature Reserve

City Centre Local Nature Reserve: New Wetland

The aim of the project is to increase biodiversity and expand a city centre Local Nature Reserve. New habitats including open water, reedbeds and floodplain grassland, covering approximately 0.8 hectares, were created. The active ‘Friends of Logan’s Meadow’ group helped promote the public consultation on the vision for the space, which informed the final design. The group have also helped the local community to learn about and get involved in the nature reserve.

New areas of open water, channels, and reedbeds were created, connecting to an existing backwater channel. The site is now more biodiverse, and a more connected nature network has been created, to enable species to thrive. A significant area of amenity land has been retained, and the public are able to walk through the new wetlands.
