Helping Farmers to Create More Space for Nature

The Wildlife Trust BCN employed a Land Advisor to encourage and support farmers and landowners to do even more to help nature on their land in the Cambridge Nature Network area. This includes helping to set up farming clusters, giving advice, and helping to secure small capital grants to enable nature recovery projects brought forward by farmers.

So far (the Land Advisor has been):

  • Writing Nature Recovery Plans for landowners in the Cambridge Nature Network.
  • Meeting with landowners to provide advice on management of chalk stream areas and meadow creation.
  • Working with landowners to make their land more wildlife-rich.
  • Working, in partnership with other organisations and farmers, to establish a nature-friendly farming cluster along the south and east side of Cambridge (The East Cambridge Farmers). The cluster was established in 2022 and is still active with an increasing membership.
