City Centre Nature Reserve: New Woodland
The aim of the project was to increase biodiversity and expand a city centre Local Nature Reserve by planting 0.48 hectares of woodland habitat on sports pitch boundaries.
Before: Cut grass, not being managed for nature conservation.

During: Over 150 volunteers of all ages helped to plant 250 trees, with many committing to also help weed, mulch, and water trees in the early years. A mixture of 20 different varieties including Willows, English Oak, Maple, Elm, Scots Pine, Birch, Alder, Holly, Hazel, Cherry Plum, Broadleaf thorn, and Hawthorn, were all sourced from local nurseries.



After: Six months later, the trees were doing well.
