Deep Time Walk in Cambridge

This 4.6-kilometre walk takes you on a journey through Earth’s deep history, from around 4.6 billion years ago to the present day.
At a pace of 1 million years per metre, we will stop off at key moments to discover the evolution of landscapes and life through stories, conversation and reflection.
Route details: Starts at Parker’s Piece (Gonville Place entrance), through Coe Fen and other places, and ends at the Anthropology museum (Pembroke Street), viewing familiar Cambridge through a ‘deep time’ lens (cosmological, geological and evolutionary time scales). We will stop for a break and lunch at the halfway point.
Duration: 4 hours | Distance: 4.6km | Accessibility: mostly paved and flat, with some potentially muddy paths.
Preparation: Please wear sturdy footwear and waterproofs if rainy, bring a packed lunch and water. There will be an opportunity to purchase drinks/food at our lunch spot.
