Mini BioBlitz Nature Survey at Harlton Woods
July 1, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - July 2, 2023 @ 12:00 pm
FreeHarlton Woods in South Cambridgeshire is a special and unique site which was once an ancient clunch pit. In 2007 then-Harlton resident Martin Johns produced a record, created over a span of years, of wildlife in the area. Containing over 2,000 files, the record includes flowers, trees, fungi and invertebrates. 16 years later, we are planning a survey to find out what might still be there.
On the Saturday evening, we will start by setting small mammal and moth traps, and using bat detectors to look for these mini-mammals. On Sunday morning, we’ll record the findings from the traps and release the creatures, and then carry out plant, bird and insect surveys. With input from local experts from the Countryside Regeneration Trust and others, this is an opportunity to learn some citizen science. Apps and guidebooks welcome. Some steep paths.
Come either day or both. Meet at the Hare and Hounds pub at 7.45pm Saturday or 7.15am Sunday or ring 07913 989254. BYO lunch, drinks and appropriate clothing. Cake provided!
Saturday July 1st 8 pm- late/Sunday July 2nd 7.30 am – 12 noon
