02. Wandlebury Country Park: Wildlife Refuge

New Woodland

The aim of the project is to increase biodiversity and expand Wandlebury Country Park by planting a new woodland as a wildlife refuge on land that was private. 0.81 hectares were purchased and 1,630 native trees were planted.

A dead hedge was also constructed to provide additional habitat. The public will be able to view a beautiful new woodland and appreciate the wildlife, improving public health and wellbeing.

During: Volunteers planted 1,630 native trees.

A dead-hedge was constructed by volunteers to create new habitats and increase biodiversity.

After: New saplings were thriving six months after planting. This is the start of a new, much-needed woodland to increase and connect Wandlebury’s existing wooded spaces
