Lost Meadows: Improving Meadows & Rewilding
The aim of the project was to increase biodiversity and give people more green space to enjoy. 2.23 hectares of former farmland beside Coton Countryside Reserve has started the process of being rewilded, to create a mosaic of habitats by introducing grazing animals, controlling scrub, planting trees, and creating features such as ponds and bunds. A new bridge, gates and paths have been installed, and the meadows have been opened for people to enjoy, which will increase public health and wellbeing.

Before: Overcrowded scrubland, not managed for nature conservation.
During: Scrub being cleared to provide space for lowland meadow species and a mosaic of habitats. Spoil from excavation during pond creation was used to create a suitable feeding area for Turtle Dove and insect habitat.
During: Wardens constructed a cattle and pedestrian bridge over the ditch to allow access to both meadows. The ditch was also widened to create a wildlife pond.
