SUMMARY:Gamlingay Eco Hub + Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided visit around Gamlingay village and hear about local perspectives on nature\, carbon reduction\, and community energy at the Eco Hub. \nTickets are free but please fill out this form \nPlease email cathy.lin@scambs.gov.uk if you have any questions or issues with booking. \nMeet at the Gamlingay Eco Hub (Gamlingay Community Centre) \n1pm – 2pm – Optional guided tour around the village\nThe day will start with an optional 1 hour walking tour from the Eco Hub through Mill Bridge Meadow\, where you will have a clear view of the Gamlingay Community Turbine which has been providing clean energy for the village since 2013! We will then continue through the Lowerfield\, St Mary’s Field Cemetery\, and the Gamlingay Foodbank and Fridge and back to the Eco Hub. SUMMARY:Flora and Fauna at the Old Rec\, Cottenham
DESCRIPTION:The ‘Old Rec’ is a meadow at the bottom of Broad Lane\, Cottenham\, just before the bridge over the Lode. It is so-called because it was created as the parish recreation ground in the 19th century during the Enclosures. In recent years the field has been actively managed to encourage biodiversity. \nTo discover more about the flora and fauna to be found at the Old Rec join volunteers from Sustainable Cottenham’s Nature Recovery Group on the morning of Saturday 30th May. There will be experts on hand to talk about the small mammals which live in the area as well as the moths that fly at night and to show you some of the plants and trees which can be found there. \nThe event will begin early – at 8am prompt – when we find out whether we have caught any small mammals*. They will be released by 10am to avoid putting them under stress. \nThere will be short talks and tours about the flora and fauna at 9am\, 10am and 11am. \n*If you want to see our volunteer setting the small mammal traps the evening before\, come to the Old Rec at 6pm on Friday 29th May. \nThis event is part of the Cambridge Nature Festival 2026\, 23rd May – 30 June\, a celebration of Nature on your doorstep. DESCRIPTION:This event is part of a series of short\, accessible walks\, led by Communities and Education Officer Rebecca Neal\, around Trumpington Meadows Nature Reserve in the warmer months. We walk at a leisurely pace on flat paths\, taking around an hour to go 1-2 miles. We stop to discuss whatever wildlife comes along\, and focus on common species. SUMMARY:Histon & Impington BioBlitz
DESCRIPTION:Histon & Impington Green Spaces and Histon & Impington Community Orchard have joined forces for an all day nature extravaganza – Histon & Impington BioBlitz 2026. \nWe will be discovering the wildlife and plants in some of our woods and meadows including Histon Wood\, the Croft Close Nature Reserve\, Long Meadow\, the Manor Park field and Community Orchard. \nWhat is on\, where and when?  \nNature sets the timetable! From dawn (almost) to dusk local experts will be hunting for animals and plants\, and anyone – young or old – can join them. Just drop in\, no need to book. \nThere will be a wide range of stalls with a nature theme based at the Community Orchard in the morning. Our BioBlitz “hub” at St Audrey’s Close Community Centre will also have a range of nature stalls plus a totaliser where you can see just how much has been identified as the day progresses. \nWe have a full programme of TIMED ACTIVITIES that start from either the Community Orchard or St Audrey’s Close Community Centre – see website for timetable. \nSt Audrey’s Close Community Centre will be the BioBlitz ”hub” open from 10:30-16:30. During the morning there will be a second hub in the Community Orchard open from 8am. (See also the separately advertised Orchard Breakfast\, serving 10:30-12:00). There will be a nature puzzle trail between the two hubs.
