SUMMARY:Six Inches of Soil + Panel
DESCRIPTION:This showing of the inspiring story of British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food – to heal the soil\, benefit our health and provide for local communities takes place at the Stapleford Village Weekend. The film will be followed by a short talk from a panel of experts\, including the film’s producer\, Claire Mackenzie. \nAbout the Film\n\nSix Inches of Soil tells the inspiring story of young English farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food – to heal the soil and our health and provide for local communities. \nHalf the food we eat in the UK is produced by about 180\,000 farmers\, who manage 70 per cent of our land. Current “industrial” mainstream farming practices significantly contribute to soil degradation\, biodiversity loss and climate change. Regenerative farming practices within an agroecological system promote healthier soils\, provide healthier\, affordable food\, restore biodiversity and sequester carbon. \n\n\n \n\n\nThe film is a story of three new farmers in the first year of their regenerative journey to heal the soil and help transform the food system – Anna Jackson\, a Lincolnshire 11th-generation arable and sheep farmer; Adrienne Gordon\, a Cambridgeshire small-scale vegetable farmer; and Ben Thomas\, who rears pasture-fed beef cattle in Cornwall. \nAs the trio of young farmers strives to adopt regenerative practices and create viable businesses\, they meet seasoned mentors who help them on their journey. They are joined by other experts who provide wisdom and solutions from a growing movement of people dedicated to changing the trajectory of food\, farming\, and the planet. \n\nBook tickets

SUMMARY:Overburden + Q&A
DESCRIPTION:OVERBURDEN is a feature-length documentary set in the mist-shrouded Nimba Mountains on the Liberia–Guinea border\, where rare wildlife and local communities reclaim a landscape scarred by mining. Today\, this fragile recovery faces a new threat: a global steel company using conservation promises to brand a new mining venture as green. \nWith exclusive\, on-the-ground access\, OVERBURDEN follows rangers\, scientists\, and forest defenders—like Moses Darpey\, a hunter turned ranger—as they navigate the tangled frontier where mining meets conservation\, and where memory\, science\, and power collide. The film captures intimate encounters with the mountain’s extraordinary inhabitants\, from a viviparous toad found nowhere else on earth to resilient cave-dwelling bats and adaptive chimpanzees. \nOVERBURDEN tells a powerful story of resilience and transformation in a landscape shaped by industry yet alive with possibility. Through vivid cinematography and deeply rooted storytelling\, the film follows communities and nature enduring and adapting in the face of relentless global forces. OVERBURDEN celebrates the power of mutual aid\, showing how people and ecosystems persist\, rebuild\, and thrive against overwhelming odds. \nQ&A with the filmmakers Shadrach Kerwillain\, Sarita West (Director) and Gregg Mitman (Creative Producer) \nMore information and get tickets

SUMMARY:No Trees No Seas
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special screening of No Trees No Seas\, a powerful new feature-length documentary exploring the hidden connection between our forests and oceans. \n  \nFor thousands of years\, the British Isles were home to vast forests that swept across the land\, right to the sea’s edge. Two separate worlds\, divided by the shoreline. \n  \nWhat we couldn’t see were the forests sending life to the sea\, and the sea giving life back to the forests. Not two separate worlds\, but a single living system – trees and seas connected in ways we’re only now beginning to understand. \n  \nWhen we cut down the forests\, we severed that connection. And our seas have been suffering ever since. \n  \nNo Trees No Seas is a Cornwall-born project and campaign spearheaded by Plant One\, with a bold mission: to restore both our forests and our seas.
